Based on a collection of short stories by Clarice Lispector, called Family Ties, this multi media work consisted of 12 fragments and incorporated 8mm film, music, slides, movement and physical theatre. The 23 different characters were played by four women.

Pacifying Life not only communicated the themes of frustration and quiet despair that pervade the original stories, it also presented itself as an examination of theatre and its processes. The work was first presented as Vicki Arbuckle's third year degree show at Goldsmiths College, London.

The film is taken from slides of No8: A Rehearsal of Woman in the Zoological Gardens.
